What Stovyn actually does
Per-burner thermal sensing detects unattended cooking. Acoustic frequency-band detection listens for kettle whistles and existing smoke-alarm sounds. The Pro model adds an on-device camera that captures snapshots during cooking-state transitions — by default, image bytes stay on the device flash and are auth-gated. When the customer doesn't acknowledge an alert in time, Stovyn escalates to up to 5 trusted contacts via SMS (TCPA-compliant consent required).
What Stovyn explicitly does not do
- · Replace a UL 217 smoke alarm, UL 268 alarm, or UL 2034 CO alarm
- · Stream video to the cloud (the Pro camera processes locally)
- · Identify what you're cooking or perform any food/object recognition
- · Automatically dispatch emergency services (it never calls 911)
- · Sell or share customer data with advertisers
Founder bio (~50 words)
Prabhakar Rao Mallela is the founder of Augeas Technologies Partnership Company and the creator of Stovyn, a smart stove monitor designed around per-burner thermal sensing and on-device privacy. He started Augeas after the death of an Indian woman in a US apartment fire — a kitchen fire her smoke alarm caught only after the apartment was already burning — convinced him the gap between "stove left on" and "kitchen on fire" was costing lives, and that existing smart-stove products were over-promising on AI while under-delivering on the basics.
