Stovyn vs iGuardStove
Both are built for the moment someone walks away from the stove. iGuard turns the stove off. Stovyn tells people. iGuard is the current name for the maker's newer models.
The short answer
Choose iGuard if the person cooking may not respond to an alert and you have a plug-in electric range. It warns, then switches the stove off when no one is in the kitchen.
Choose Stovyn if you have a gas or hardwired stove today, or you want alerts without changing how the stove gets power. Stovyn does not shut the stove off.

How each one handles a cook who walks away
Stovyn
The burner is hot and no one is near it. After several minutes, the device beeps. If no one waves at it or turns the burner off, your phone gets an alert. If no one answers that, your trusted contacts get a text. The stove stays on until someone turns it off.
iGuard
The cook leaves the kitchen with a burner on. iGuard notices no one is there and warns first. If no one comes back, it turns the stove off. For a long simmer, you set the extended cooking timer, and it goes back to automatic protection afterward. Family can also lock the stove from the app, or on a schedule.
The older iGuardStove used a motion sensor and shut the stove off after five minutes without motion (iGuardStove electric page). The current iGuard pages do not give a time.
Who should buy which
Pick iGuard if…
Best for: The person cooking may not come back or respond, for example with moderate memory loss. You have a plug-in electric range. You want family to be able to lock the stove at night.
Honest tradeoff: The gas and hardwired cooktop models are listed for 2027, not sold yet. If the cook steps out longer than iGuard allows, the meal stops; the extended timer is there for long cooking. The stove gets its power through the iGuard unit.
Pick Stovyn if…
Best for: The person cooking still responds to a beep, and you want family told early, wherever they are. You have a gas or hardwired stove, or you rent and cannot change how the stove is powered.
Honest tradeoff: It does not shut the stove off. If no one responds, the stove stays on. It is a pre-order shipping December 20, 2026, and its certifications are not yet granted.
Frequently asked questions
Is Stovyn an iGuardStove alternative?
Partly. Both deal with cooking left unattended. iGuard turns the stove off when no one is in the kitchen. Stovyn reads burner heat and alerts you and your trusted contacts, but never shuts the stove off. If you need automatic shut-off on a plug-in electric range, iGuard is the better fit.
Does Stovyn turn off the stove like iGuard?
No. Stovyn never cuts power or gas. It beeps at the stove, alerts your phone, and texts your trusted contacts if no one responds. Someone still has to turn the burner off.
Does iGuard work with gas stoves?
iGuard lists a gas model for 2027, and its page says it needs a certified gas plumber. Today its shut-off covers plug-in electric ranges. Stovyn works on gas stoves now with no gas work, but it does not shut the stove off.
What is the difference between iGuardStove and iGuard?
iGuard is the newer product from the same company. Its website lists the older iGuardStove models under old product information. The older electric model used a motion sensor on a control panel and shut the stove off after five minutes without motion. The current iGuard pages do not give a shut-off time.
Which is better for someone with dementia?
It depends on the stage. Early on, when your parent still cooks well and responds to a beep, Stovyn keeps them cooking and keeps you informed. When they start walking away from the stove or ignoring alerts, an automatic shut-off such as iGuard is the safer choice. Talk to their doctor about kitchen safety as well.
Can I use Stovyn and iGuard together?
Yes. They work independently. Stovyn gives family an early alert, and iGuard turns the stove off if no one comes back.
